The Borough of Quakertown will be closing Mill Street from 4th Street to North Hellertown Road on Wednesday, September 24 to allow for necessary paving work.

Work Hours: 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Traffic Impacts:

• Mill Street will be closed between 4th Street and Hellertown Road.

• Traffic will be detoured.

• The truck route will be affected; trucks should use North Ambler Street.

Please plan accordingly and use caution when traveling in the area. We appreciate your cooperation as this work is completed.

The Borough of Quakertown will be performing overnight water main work on Mill Street during the week of August 11–15. This work is necessary to maintain and improve our water infrastructure.

Work Hours: Nightly from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM

Traffic Impacts:

• Mill Street may be restricted to one lane during work hours.

• Temporary road closures may be required at times.

• "No Parking" signs will be posted in advance along the work zones.

The Borough of Quakertown will be completing milling and paving on select Borough roads during the week of August 11–15. This work is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and improve local road conditions for residents and visitors. The project will be completed by a third-party contractor on behalf of the Borough.

• Main Street – from Cemetery Road to Broad Street
• Park Avenue – from 9th Street to Main Street
• 9th Street – from Broad Street to Juniper Street
• 11th Street – from Broad Street to Juniper Street

Traffic Impacts:

• Some roads will be fully closed during active work periods.
• Others will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic.
• No Parking will be permitted on all impacted roads during the week.

UPDATE (8/6) - ROADWORK IS COMPLETE! 

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that pipe replacement work will close a section of northbound Route 309 (West End Boulevard) through Quakertown Borough and Richland Township as part of a $15.9 million stormwater management upgrade project affecting more than 90 state highways across the Philadelphia region.

Expect Timing: August 4-8, but hoping for only a 24-hour closure on Tuesday, August 5

Detour Information: The initial detour route provided by PennDOT is not feasible for large trucks, so an alternate detour has been established:

• East on Route 313 to 4th Street
• North on 4th Street to Mill Street
• East on Mill Street to Route 212
• North on Route 212 to Pumping Station Road
• West on Pumping Station Road back to Route 309

Temporary No Parking Areas: To ensure access for emergency vehicles and allow large trucks room to navigate detour turns, temporary parking restrictions will be in place in the following areas:

• North side of Broad Street from Main Street to 4th Street
• East side of North Hellertown Avenue from Mill Street to Heller Road
• Both sides of 4th Street

"No Parking" signs will be posted in all restricted areas. 

Trash & Recycling Notice: Due to increased traffic and to ensure the safety of our employees: 

• All trash and recycling routes will begin at 5:00 AM throughout the week
• Please place your items at your normal pickup location the night before your scheduled collection day.

This PennDOT-managed project will result in a significant increase in traffic on local Borough roads during the closure. Please expect heavier congestion, particularly along detour routes and intersections, and plan your travel accordingly.

The Borough is working to make this as smooth as possible by adjusting traffic signal timing, increasing signage, and sharing ongoing updates to help manage the flow of vehicles and keep our community informed.

We encourage all drivers to use extra caution and allow additional travel time while this necessary infrastructure work is completed.

QUAKERTOWN BOROUGH ANNOUNCES PERMANENT LANE REDUCTION ON BROAD STREET TO ENHANCE DOWNTOWN SAFETY AND ACCESS

Quakertown, PA: Starting Tuesday, August 26th, Broad Street between 4th Street and 3rd Street will be permanently reduced from two lanes to one lane as part of an effort to calm traffic and improve pedestrian safety in the heart of our downtown.

This project aims to create a safer and more welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and local businesses. The lane reduction will help slow vehicle speeds, improve pedestrian crossings, and create additional parking, making it easier for shoppers and diners to enjoy our vibrant downtown district. At the start of the lane reduction, bollards will be installed to prevent vehicles from entering the new parking spaces, and a dedicated left-turn lane will be added before the light at 3rd Street.

During the roadwork on August 26th, parking will be temporarily restricted on the south side of Broad Street between 4th and 3rd Streets, with no parking signs posted in advance to ensure clear access for crews. The work is expected to be completed in one day, August 26, with construction hours from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Portable message boards will be placed prior to the change to help inform commuters and drivers of the new traffic pattern.
