WINTER STORM UPDATES

Post Date:01/23/2026 12:00 PM

Snow Removal Reminders 1/27:

As we approach the 36-hour mark following the recent snowstorm, residents and business owners are reminded that Borough ordinance requires sidewalks to be cleared to a minimum width of 24 inches. Due to the heavy snowfall, the Borough is allowing extra time, but enforcement will begin at 12:00 PM tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28. Failure to clear sidewalks by then may result in fines.

Shoveling, blowing, or plowing snow into the roadway is strictly prohibited. This is extremely hazardous to drivers, pedestrians, and Borough snow crews. The Borough has also seen an increase in third-party companies dumping snow into roadways. If this activity is observed, penalties will be enforced.

Downtown Snow Removal TONIGHT: Snow removal will begin at midnight. There will be no parking downtown during this time. Vehicles left downtown after 12:00 AM may be towed.

Borough Public Works crews will continue snow removal and cleanup throughout the week. Thank you for helping keep our sidewalks and streets safe!

TRASH & RECYCLING NOTICE:

Due to weather conditions, trash and recycling collection will be delayed on Monday, January 26, and may experience additional delays throughout the rest of the week.

Monday pickups: Please place your containers out around noon on Monday or after your street has been plowed. We plan to start Monday’s route later in the day. Some pickups may not be completed on Monday, so please leave your containers out for the next day.

All other days: Continue to place your containers out on your normal pickup day. If your trash or recycling isn’t collected as scheduled, leave it out and crews will pick it up the following day.

BOROUGH HALL CLOSED 1/26/2026:

Due to weather conditions, Borough Hall will be closed on Monday, January 26.

The Council Work Session will still be held at 7:30 PM.

Winter Storm Preparedness Update 1/23/26

A significant winter storm is expected to begin Saturday (1/24) night and continue through Monday (1/26) morning. Current forecasts indicate the possibility of 12–18 inches of snow, along with very cold temperatures and icy conditions.

The Borough has already begun preparations for the storm and will continue to closely monitor conditions. Updates will be provided on the Borough’s website and through official social media channels.

How Residents Can Prepare

To help crews work safely and efficiently, residents are asked to remove vehicles, trailers, and large obstacles from streets so plows can clear curb to curb. Please keep catch basins and storm drains clear of snow and ice to help prevent localized flooding as snow melts.

Residents are encouraged to prepare by having adequate provisions on hand, charging communication devices, ensuring batteries are available for emergency lighting, and bringing all pets indoors during the storm.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm until Borough crews have had the opportunity to plow and salt roadways.

Snow Removal Reminders

Please do not shovel, plow, or blow snow into roadways. Snow placed in the street creates hazardous conditions and slows snow removal operations. It is strongly suggested that residents wait until the storm has ended and Borough crews have cleared streets before clearing snow from their property.

Property owners are reminded that sidewalks must have a minimum 24-inch-wide path cleared within 36 hours after the storm ends.

Safety Information

Borough crews are prepared and ready to respond as conditions require. Due to the severity of this storm, downed wires and reduced visibility are possible. Never approach a downed wire—report it immediately.

For non-life-threatening, storm-related matters, please contact the Borough’s Utility Call Service at 267-347-5009. For emergencies or to report a crime, call 9-1-1.
